The Greater Sudbury Public Library is pleased to offer this volunteer program in an effort to connect with youth in the community, and to provide an opportunity for youth to connect with other members of their own community through technological assistance.
The VolunTeen Program also strives to meet the need for volunteer opportunities for students in Grades 9-12 currently attending any high school in the City of Greater Sudbury who need to fulfill their Community Service Hours requirement before graduation.
A VolunTeen is a youth who volunteers to spend their time (on a regular basis) within the library to provide technological assistance (in areas not already provided by the library) to other library patrons with respect to digital gadgets, popular online websites, social media and other online or computer-based services.
Through VolunTeen Orientation sessions, these volunteers have a chance to learn about and play with devices such as eReaders and tablets which people often come to the library to find out more about.
To be considered for a VolunTeen placement, students/youth in the City of Greater Sudbury can fill out an application form (on paper or online) and return it to any Library. They will then be contacted by Library staff to discuss current placement opportunities in the library location of their choice.
